A Gal-friend of mine just asked for my juice recipe, and I realized that i kinda "wing it" depending on what I have purchased at the local farmer's market.
Well, this weekend I took the time to drive out to Ojai for their Sunday farmer's market!
Talk about some beautiful veggies, most locally grown and organic!
I took home a haul of beautiful varieties, and make an absolutely power-packed juice!
Even my mom licked her lips with delight after our morning chug of juice.
For those of you who don't know, my mom had a severe reaction to an antibiotic, Levaquin, which changed her life drastically! She had a severe reaction that almost killed her, and unfortunately landed her in a convalescent home.
Back in August of 2013, mom could barely transfer from a bed, to a wheelchair without two people assisting her; now, after lots of green juice, and fulvic/humic minerals, she is using an upright walker with the help of one person! The smile on her face was awesome; just seeing her proud of her accomplishment at 89 years old was a delight to my heart!
I owe a lot of her recovery to green juice. I don't remember exactly when I started taking her the beautiful green beverages, but her response was not always a pleasant one! But over time, she has grown to love the juice as much as I do!
I am going to give you the base, then realize that the other veggies can be added according to taste, and availability! I try to buy organic, and definitely hit the local farmer's markets. Get to know your growers, and where your food is coming from! Here you go!
- 1 green apple including seeds!
- 1 cucumber, or a couple of the small English cucumbers (hydrating)
- 1 whole bunch of celery…some people do a few stalks, but I like the celery because of the natural sodium…I don’t salt anything!
- 1 whole lemon (I use Meyer lemons that are organic so I juice the skin)…but if I don’t have a Meyer, any lemon will do…
- 1 thumb sized piece of ginger root…I have grown to add more ginger, but had to get used to it.
You can put some turmeric root
in there if able to be found (anti-carcinogenic) or a splash of cayenne if you
like a little more heat( great for cardiovascular)
The above is the base:
Then, like yesterday, I added
the following, it was LOADED… but you can pick and choose what you have, or
like.
I don’t add fruit unless it is
apple, grape (with seeds), pear, lemon, sometimes lime or orange peeled if I
don’t have lemon, which acts as a preservative)
- Large bunch of black Kale
- Red leaf lettuce
- Large bunch of Red Kale
- Bunch of cilantro
- Bunch of parsley
- Mint from my garden, two varieties
- Basil
- Dill
- Mustard (the plant)
- Collard green (one or two large leaves)
- Tomato
- Carrot
- Dandelion (large bunch, great for liver)
- Beet tops (I sometime do not use the root because it can turn your urine blood red, and I don’t want the convalescent hospital thinking my mom is bleeding)
- Broccoli (large or baby)
- Red Pepper
- I added a bunch of sprouted garbanzos, peas, alfalfa, radish and sunflower
- Fennel
And quite frankly, adjust to
taste…some of the more bitter veggies you have to get used to but they are
great for liver detox!
Have fun with it and enjoy!
Love you all!
